Online Student
I am an online student. When I first decided to go back to school, I struggled with the decision of on campus or online classes. The one thing that helped me to decide was to look at what worked best with my schedule. I am basically a single mother (my fiance drives truck so he is on the road a lot) so I needed something that would have a daycare available for me. At the time I started school, I was also working full time as a massage therapist, working early afternoon to late night shifts. The classes needed to be available around my availablity and the on campus schools I looked into, did not have that. Online classes had that availablity that I was looking for and I wouldn't need to have day care as I could have my son at home.
I looked around at different online colleges and liked Kaplan University the best. The availablity was perfect and worked MY schedule. Kaplan also offered the best classes and the quickest schooling so I could get into the work force as soon as possible. I will admit, that at first I thought that it would be a lot more difficult and stressing (is that a word?) than it has been. I was told from many people that I would have an essay due every week and that all my assignments would be difficult to do as I would need to get my books on my own from a bookstore. Once I enrolled and asked how do I get my books, I was told that they would send them to me, with in a week of of my start day. Once classes started, I did find it difficult to find the time to do my readings and assignments, however with in the first two weeks, I was able to get more organized with my time. My first term flew by and (surprise!) I passed all my classes and even made the Dean's list. Second term came and I did just as well as I had with the first term. I was even taking Honors classes. Honors classes were a little more difficult as they demanded more of my time for essays and tests. Again, I passed with A's and made the Presidents list this time. Second term I did run into an issue. One of my class seminars that we need to attend weekly (like a class room on campus) was at 9 pm. I was used to being in bed at that time! It did get easier once I got over the inital shock of a class being that late. So far, my experience with on line courses has been wonderful. I will certainly recommend to anyone if they are looking for a great experience and even better schooling to really look into on line courses.
